Lately, I’ve been getting back into designing just for my own personal enjoyment, and I’ve come to realize how much I’ve missed designing for fun.

We humans are pattern-matching creatures, and in my case, my brain loves finding patterns in the noise. That gives me ample sources of design inspiration.

The other day I was thinking about the football teams in the NFL and it occurred to me that the teams’ names have a taxonomy I hadn’t considered before. I quickly Googled a list of the names and sketched it out. Before I knew it, I had a template of something I wanted to share.

Here is the final result:

The final results

I shared it on Reddit, Imgur, Facebook, and Twitter and boy does the internet love to grab their pitchforks. Some folks made some good suggestions, and others, well, let’s just say they seem dissatisfied with life in general.

After some changes, this was the result and I’m thankful for the suggestions.

Of course, the team placements can be debatable, the internet is not always the best source of information, and people will have differing opinions. That’s the beauty of the internet!

By the way, if you’re a football fan I’ve scored you a coupon to save up to 20% on signed football jerseys

Enjoy the infographic, and feel free to share it, just please keep the disclaimer and source information intact.
